We proudly use the Cambridge Primary International Curriculum as our core syllabus as it offers our students the best start on their schooling journey. This program builds toward the Cambridge AS and A-level programs, which are valued by both South African and international universities.
To remain relevant in our South African context we make use of the CAPS curriculum as our reference point for non-Cambridge curriculum subjects.
Our daily aim is to build students who are confident and grounded in every aspect of school life. We work to instil values which support life-long learning and positive community participation. We offer a safe environment where students can explore diverse interests, talents and their individuality.

Curriculum
Helderberg International School uses the Cambridge Primary International Examinations curriculum for English, Mathematics and Science and the South African, ‘CAPS’ (Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statements) as a guide for Afrikaans, History and Geography. Our philosophy of professional development as part of our teaching week and a deep understanding of international education underpins excellent classroom practice. This teaching and learning allows students multiple opportunities to develop socially, emotionally, physically, spiritually and intellectually.
Cambridge Primary, a highly recognised and internationally trusted curriculum framework, provides our students with a strong foundation for high school and beyond. Cambridge qualifications are recognised and valued by both South African and international universities.
Cambridge Primary English enables learners to communicate confidently and effectively and to develop the critical skills to respond to a range of information, media and texts with understanding and enjoyment. Learners who follow this curriculum framework will develop a first language competency in English based on a curriculum designed to be successful in any culture and to promote cross-cultural understanding.
The Cambridge Primary Mathematics curriculum framework explores five content areas: number, geometry, measure, handling data and problem solving. This curriculum focuses on principles, patterns, systems, functions and relationships so that learners can apply their mathematical knowledge and develop a holistic understanding of the subject.
The Cambridge Primary Science curriculum framework covers four content areas: scientific enquiry, biology, chemistry and physics. Scientific enquiry is about considering ideas, evaluating evidence, planning, investigating, recording and analysing data. Environmental awareness and some history of science are also part of the curriculum.
